Michelle Taylor was born and educated in Nottingham.
She began playing the violin aged 7, was a founder member of the Nottingham Youth Orchestra when it first began in 1985, and led the orchestra as part of the 1992-3 season.
She joined the NYIO as a string tutor when it was formed in 1998 and now divides her time between teaching and performing.
Recently Michelle has worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Viva, Heart of England Orchestra, English Philharmonic Orchestra, Helix Ensemble, Oxford Chamber Orchestra and is leader of the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. She teaches at The Minster School, Southwell and the Centre for Young Musicians, Kensington & Chelsea. She plays in many local ensembles including Nottingham Festival Opera and Nottingham Bach Society.
As a session musician Michelle has recorded for several labels including BMG International, Arista, Nuphonic and Mantis.
You will have heard her on TV on the Classical Brit Awards and on BBC Radio 2's coverage of the Ivor Novello Awards. Pop acts she has recently appeared with include Ed Harcourt, Hal and Matthew Herbert and she is a member of the acclaimed 13-piece group, Tonic Fold.
